    Santhi Nilayam school for Mentally Challenged was established in 1993 at Paruthivilai,8 K.m. away from Nagercoilin Kanyakumari Districtby the Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS), St. Chanthal’s Region Tamilnadu. under the Diocese of Thukalay, inspired by the vision of our Heavenly Patron Venerable Bishop Thomas Kurialachery (BTK).

    The Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed (SABS) which is a pontifical one, was founded by the Venerable Mar Thomas Kurialacherry in 1908 at Champakulam, Kerala state, India and the Co-foundress was Mother Mary Francisea de Chantal. Both were ardent devotees of the Holy Eucharist. Besides the Eucharistic Apostolate we extent our services in the fields of Education, especially for women, Parish ministry, faith apostolate, healing ministry etc. Our sisters run Schools, Colleges, Nursing schools, Hospitals, Nature cure centres, retreat centres etc. The seal to share Eucharistic love urges us to go for mission work in any part of the world. Our sisters are working in all the states of India & abroad.We mainly concentrated on the uplift of the poor and the needy especially women and children. The sisters are working with the people those who are living in the remote area with a low back ground. We have 2 Special schools for the mentally challenged children in Kanyakumari District. Santhi Nilayam school at Paruthivilai and Jothi Nilayam school at Pallapalam.

    Santhi Nilayam school was started with 3 children at paruthivilai in a small hut. At present in Santhi Nilayam 185 ( 133 boys and 52 girls) students are beingtrained. Among them 55 kids are getting early intervention training at the Early Intervention Centre, 80 children are getting special education in School, 40 students are studying vocational training in the Vocational Training Unit, and 10 students are getting various training in CBR (Community Based Rehabilitation Centre). Special education is specially designed with instructions which meet the unique needs of an exceptional child with special materials, teaching equipments and other facilities. In our school we have all the infra-structural facilities to train more than 200 Mentally Retarded children. Giving importance to each and every child individually the children is broadly divided in to thirteen groups as classes.

    The organization employs a dedicated staff of 20 special educators, 4 therapist, 3 Social workers and 8 non-teaching staff. These trained and highly qualified staff regularly keep evaluating and updating their teaching and training skills, to be on par with the new advances in the field of intervention and rehabilitation techniques of special children.
